Inter House English Activities
Extempore
‘Speech is power, speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel’ - Ralph Waldo Emerson
On 8th of February 2022 an Inter House extempore competition was conducted for group
D (grade 7). 14 contestants from four different houses spoke on spot! It took a lot of
confidence and preparation to do that.
The contest was intended to reveal a competitor’s ability to develop a point of view on a
general topic and to deliver an impromptu speech within limited preparation time.
Each participant was given 1 minute to speak on a topic given to him or her and they were
given a minute prior to the speech, to think over the given topic.
Judging was done on the basis of content, preparation, organization of thoughts, body
language and vocal delivery. They also looked for clarity of thought, logical organization,
and the effective use of English, along with self confidence, inflection, enunciation, facial
expressions, gestures, eye contact, enthusiasm, persuasiveness, clear presentation of ideas
and most importantly- a worthwhile message.
The theme of the competition was - 75th Indian Republic Day.
