Puppet show for K2 learners: Room on the Broom
Room on the Broom is a British children's story by the
playwright Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler,
which tells the story of a kind witch and her cat who invited
three other animals (a dog, a bird and a frog) to join them to
travel on her broomstick. Room on the Broom has been
translated into 22 languages and has won six awards. It was
indeed a pleasure for the educators of K2 to narrate this story
through a puppet show. The learners enjoyed watching the
story unfold before them. Colourful puppets, interesting story
narration and voice modulation made the puppet show quite
interesting and enthralling for the learners. The squeals and
the laughter of the learners, was proof of the joy and fun they
experienced during the show. Not only the learners learnt the
art of narrating a story effectively, but also enhanced their
creativity by doing a follow- up activity related to the story,
where they thoroughly enjoyed sequencing the characters on
the witch’s broomstick and also illustrated the story. The
puppet show was a true learning experience as it surely sent
across an inspirational message to the young learners.
